Is day trading worth it? The honest Reddit answer
For most people, no: most day traders lose money over time, and the ones who last treat it like a business with written rules, small risk per trade and a tested edge. Before trading live, prove your rules on dozens of practice trades and know your win rate and average win and loss.
The math that decides it
Expectancy per trade is win rate times average win, minus loss rate times average loss. A 40% win rate works if winners are twice the size of losers. A 70% win rate fails if losers are three times the size of winners. Costs and slippage come off every trade.
Rules and limits in the US
With a margin account below the pattern day trader minimum, long set at $25,000, you are limited to three day trades in five business days. FINRA has proposed changing this rule, so check your broker's current limit. Cash accounts avoid the rule but must wait for trades to settle before reusing the money.
Testing before risking money
Replay real sessions and trade them blind, with the size you would really use, and log every trade. Obelion Arena replays real market days with the ticker and date hidden so hindsight cannot help.
Questions

- Can you day trade with a small account?
- Yes, in a cash account or within the three-trade limit, but costs weigh more on small accounts and risk per trade must stay small.
- How do I practice day trading for free?
- Use a simulator on real market data. Obelion Arena has free day-trade rooms on replayed 5-minute sessions.
